Harry Reid writes to the Washington Post:

On reading the July 21 editorial "The Phony Debate," it became clear why The Post's editorial writers have been such eager cheerleaders for the Bush administration's flawed Iraq policies -- the two share the same disregard for the facts en route to drawing dubious conclusions.

Indeed -- like I've been saying, Harry and Nancy can get airtime or column inches anytime they want just by picking up the phone. It's obvious that mainstream coverage is slanted, so they should be hammering the press on a weekly basis, at the least.

I was also encouraged by the spokesperson for the Edwards campaign yesterday -- she took advantage of the Thugs attempt to slime the Dem candidates to give some back. Fast and brutal.

More like this, please.

Say what you will about the "ineffectiveness" of the congressional Dems (and I have, too) -- this is good news. This is the effect that all of the investigations need to have; they paralyze the Thugs from making everything that they've ruined even worse.

So here we are: the Surgeon General, the Attorney General, the Commander-in-Chief, all lying to us. Add the "Lies of Necessary Fears" by Michael "Gut-Feeling" Chertoff, and you've got a government that is actually functioning to bring harm to its citizens. If this was a real democracy, we'd be out in the streets shutting the nation down until Bush resigned, taking Cheney with him. The unions would call for general strikes, as would immigrant rights groups, poverty groups, families of soldiers. All seventy percent of us. Clogging the cities and towns, demanding that we take back the country from the people who want to harm us.

But this is not a real democracy. It is a group of geographically tied together people with pretense to democracy, fearful of actual power because it means actual responsibility for themselves, for each other.

Triumph of the Stupid

I really shouldn't have read the MediaMatters article about the Post and the Supreme Court.

It's perfectly clear now that the Stupids have won.

In spite of being absolutely wrong about every single damn thing, everywhere, the Stupids in the Bush Davidians, the press, the Congress, the courts, the media, even popular entertainment now rule absolutely.

The ability to say utterly stupid things as loudly as possible without your guts rising out of your throat and strangling you to death in shame, is now all-powerful and has allowed the utterly stupid to take over the world and pillage and steal to their hearts' content.

If by some chance, one happens to be not-stupid, count on being villified and isolated to the brink of madness -- if not beyond. A Stupid society has no use for non-stupids; learn to be resented and hated.
