Crushes: Milla Jovovich

So, Friday night, TNT ran one of their periodic Superhero/Fantasy/Action bloc of movies. At least, I'm sure that's how they think of it.

Me, I always think of it as the Night of Kick-Ass Babes In Tight, Tight Pants!

First Kate Beckinsale In Underworld, Milla Jovovich in UltraViolet, and then Charlize Theron in Aeon Flux!

Milla Jovovich is my favorite go-to Kick-Ass Babe - Three Resident Evil movies, The Fifth Element, and of course, UltraViolet.

I look forward to as many more superheroines as she sees fit to play!

Once again your choices of action women mirrors mine, but I'm going to go with Kate Beckinsale first. Milla Jovovich in the Fifth Element was one of my favorites.

I just say Underworld Evolution last week. The choreography is really great. If you like that you might like The Sarah Connor Chronicles. With Summer Glau. Also wonderful choreography. She is good in Serenity and Firefly as well.

Some of my favorite fight choreography is in the Transporter series and I recognized some of the same moves in a movie called "Shoot 'em up" (Did I tell you that already?)

It is no surprise when you find out that Summer Glau has a background in dance. I'll bet both Kate and Milla do too.

When I studied self defense I learned a technique used by the miltary. I asked about those flips and round house kicks in the movies. The Instructor just laughed. "It looks good on Camera but it is a waste of motion and energy." He pointed out three effective techniques that could have been used instead that would have ended the fight in about 9 seconds.

The techniques weren't pretty, but they were effective and fast. He also told me that they used to teach these techniques to entry level Marines, but stopped because they kept killing people in bar fights!

Thanks for your comment, spocko!

I had to go with Milla because the only thing I've really liked Kate in was Underworld. Five Milla movies and I'm pretty much good for a desert island!

If movies looked live real life, of course, we wouldn't have to go to the movies. We watch cinematic actiosn, precisely because of the style. Adam Sandler parodied that in "You Don't Mess With The Zohan" - Nothing he did in that was realistic, and he wasn't even trying to pretend that it was.

A nice look at movie action was in the other movie from the director of UltraViolet, Kurt Wimmer - "Equilibrium" uses an entirely made-up fighting style called Gun Kata.

Gun Kata was cool.
