A day later...

Quite frankly, I don't know how I'm feeling. Having run away from, what was effectively, nothing at all.

Notes on the Evacuation of Houston

All right. My love and I are secure in Kyle, (near Austin).

I had to leave my friend's mom behind who wouldn't leave her (little, yappy) dogs.

I had to leave my two little girls behind because my ex-wife refuses to believe that there is a problem in Houston and thinks that I'm just "showing off for my girlfriend", so she refused to let me take them.

It took two days to get to Austin from Houston. Most of the way we traveled at less than 10 miles per hour.

We passed hundreds, hundreds of cars and families on I-10 that were forced to stop due to car failure or lack of gas.

We slept on the road for two nights, to get 162 miles.

The gas stop at Columbus, Texas was rapidly turning into a scene out of "Mad Max". No fuel, cars that had been there for days.

The stop at Weimar, TX was blessed -- we got gas and food and the good people there brought order out of potential chaos because they cared.

Like I said....

Like I said....:

By the way, no Democrat in the Senate will pay a political price with voter for voting against Roberts on the grounds that the guy was just not forthcoming enough. None. Nada. Zippo.

Rove in charge

Atrios asks: "What applicable experience does Rove have for overseeing a $200 billion reconstruction project?"

The answer seems to be: If you're talking about reconstructing the Bush presidency, rather than New Orleans, then plenty!

They are NOT your friends, Senator Lieberman...

I havent commented much this weekend, but I do want to say this: there is NO upside to supporting the Bush Davidians on their continued rape and pillaging of the country, the Treasury, and the Constitution. None.

They will not get along with anyone that supports them. THEY WILL FUCK YOU if you try. The Democratic Party needs to vote no as a bloc on everything, and I mean everything, from now on so that they dont get beaten over their heads with those votes now and in the future.

I realize that this is unrealistic, but it is clear that any vote in favor of these destructive bastards will be used as the knife in the back.

Coca-Cola C2

Coca-Cola C2 - The BevNET.com Review

All right -- I'm not supposed to pitch products or nothing, but I just love Coke C2 and I'm bitterly disappointed to find that they will probably drop it by year's end.

Bummer.

CYRANO vs the Bush Davidians....

CYRANO:
Why, I well believe
He dares to mock my nose? Ho! insolent!
(He raises his sword):
What say you? It is useless? Ay, I know
But who fights ever hoping for success?
I fought for lost cause, and for fruitless quest!
You there, who are you!--You are thousands!
Ah!
I know you now, old enemies of mine!
Falsehood!
(He strikes in air with his sword):
Have at you! Ha! and Compromise!
Prejudice, Treachery!. . .
(He strikes):
Surrender, I?
Parley? No, never! You too, Folly,--you?
I know that you will lay me low at last;
Let be! Yet I fall fighting, fighting still!
(He makes passes in the air, and stops, breathless):
You strip from me the laurel and the rose!
Take all! Despite you there is yet one thing
I hold against you all, and when, to-night,
I enter Christ's fair courts, and, lowly bowed,
Sweep with doffed casque the heavens' threshold blue,
One thing is left, that, void of stain or smutch,
I bear away despite you.

(He springs forward, his sword raised; it falls from his hand; he staggers, falls back into the arms of Le Bret and Ragueneau.)

ROXANE (bending and kissing his forehead):
'Tis?. . .

CYRANO (opening his eyes, recognizing her, and smiling):
MY PANACHE.

Why Cyrano? He died, unloved, but understanding that he fought for the things that he loved and believed in. His honor kept him pure.

I want to remember that when the Bush Davidians try to sweep the truth of their massive disgrace under the carpet with their so-called "investigations".

I want to remember what I'm fighting for when I despair like I did today.

Whatever: Being Poor

Whatever:
Being Poor

Being PoorBeing poor is knowing exactly how much everything costs.

Being poor is getting angry at your kids for asking for all the crap they see on TV.

Being poor is having to keep buying $800 cars because they're what you can afford, and then having the cars break down on you, because there's not an $800 car in America that's worth a damn.

Being poor is hoping the toothache goes away.
